The Ipad

Electronic devices have always caught the fancy of kids. The television and mobiles were favorites until the time IPAD was launched. With its user friendly interface it has  literally become a child' play.
Since we bought the Ipad,  its  major user is my daughter and I have to actually hide and keep it. If she as much as notices it she wants it and to divert her attention is not as easy as it was when she was an infant.
Now you may be thinking what she must be playing with the ipad.Well all she does is start Youtube and enjoy. Youtube with its user friendly 'suggested videos' gives such a control to the kids, her recently played cartoon is there and all she wants to watch is just a click away. Such a control is not possible either with the television or phone. So she will sit hours together watching mickey mouse cartoons.
Once I even deleted the Youtube app but she found a way to go to Youtube via the browser and once via a game. So she now gets the Ipad only on weekends, all other times its hidden. So yesterday she wasn't able to find it and I told her it had gone home. After that she went near the laptop and started talking with it.
This was her conversation with the laptop, yes laptop :)

Daughter - "Hi Laptop, How are you? I am fine. Laptop I lost my Ipad. The fairy did magic and took it away. It went on a rocket. Laptop I want my Ipad.  Will you help me find it :( "

And the moral of the story is....

When kids are small they will listen too anything and believe it. As they grow up you notice that instead of being mere listeners, they  interpret things and start asking questions. The next stage is when they start correcting you and in such a way that you cant disagree.. So at bedtime, my daughter wanted to listen  to a bedtime story. I was so sleepy and tried to tell her the usual stories that she hears every time. But she wanted to listen to a new story. What came to my mind was the story of the Fox and the crow. Me: Once upon a time a crow found a piece of meat and took it and sat on a tree. A hungry fox below saw it and wanted the to eat it. He told the crow, "Oh crow, what a lovely voice you have. I have come from far away to hear your voice." Hearing his praise the crow was flattered. Just as he opened his mouth to sing, the piece of meat fell down.The fox ate it and ran away. Smelly Bus

 We are so relieved and grateful that corona is not a pandemic anymore. So the most important repercussion of which is the absence of masks. It has definitely been a welcome change, but never saw it in the point of view of kids. The public transport was the last place where masks were compulsory recently, so I always checked if I has a spare mask for wearing it during bus ride. Many a time we didn't board when we didn't have a mask at hand. So recently after the masks were relaxed, I was travelling with my 5 year old son, in the bus. Son: "We don't need to wear a mask in this bus?" Me: "No we don't anymore" Son: "So we have to wear it in the other bus because it is smelly and this is not  ?" It struck me after a while that he thought we wore the mask to avoid the smell :) Definitely we did never speak about why we were wearing the mask in the first place but it was amusing to know what went into the little minds :)

Same mistakes ..

Its really interesting to know how the kids think.  My daughter spilled some food while eating and  I told her to eat carefully. Me- "Why do you always spill food? Be more careful". The next day I was transferring food from a big pan to a plate and some of it fell down. She came running to the kitchen. Daughter: "Are you ok?" Me: "Yes I just spilled some food." Without batting her eyelids , Daughter:"Mummy, why do you always spill food? Well I didn't answer her and was cleaning . In a consoling tone. Daughter: "Mom maybe because I came from your stomach that is why we both make the same mistakes." Well I couldn't disagree :)
